Dr MICHAEL SARGEANT (MBBS)

Michael Sargeant has had a long career in general practice and occupational medicine. He has worked with emergency service workers since 1988, first with VICPOL as the Police Medical Officer, then through PHM with the Metropolitan Fire Brigade, Country Fire Authority, State Emergency Service, Department of Sustainability and Environment and Rural Ambulance Victoria.

In addition, he is the medical officer for occupational health with the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine. He has been a consultant to the development of health and fitness guidelines for AFAC, the NRTC (commercial vehicle drivers), Department of Justice (CORE), and the Australian Chapter of the Viral Hepatitis Prevention Board (VHPB). He is an accredited vaccinator. His special expertise is in the development, implementation and management of State-wide health monitoring programs, systems for the collection, storage and retrieval of relevant data, together with quality control.

DR DAVID OBERKLAID (MBBS, GRAD DIP H ED)

David has over 20 years experience in general practice and occupational health. He is currently a surveyor with Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited. In this role he assesses other general practices to ensure they meet the standards of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. In the past he has worked as Head of Staff Health Service at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and General Practice Co-ordinator at Epworth Hospital.

David has previously been chair of the Preventative Medicine Committee of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and Deputy Chair of the Melbourne Division of General Practice. Over the years he has worked with a number of major organisations to develop a range of medical practice guidelines. Most recently he was the Australian Divisions of General Practice representative on the Heart Foundation Working Party that developed guidelines on cholesterol management for medical practitioners. David has a Post Graduate Diploma in Health Education (La Trobe University), Certificate of Occupational Health (RACGP) and is an approved BCG vaccinator. David’s interests include preventive health, men’s health issues, health education and quality issues in medical practices.

David is on the Medical Advisory Committee for Foundation 49. Foundation 49 is currently involved in delivering nurse based Men’s Health Checks at the workplace and David has specifically advised regarding the process for delivering this program.

DR JANE WADSLEY (MBBS, FAFOM[RACP], MPH, GRAD DIP OCC HYG, FAM PLAN CERT)

Jane is a specialist in Occupational Medicine and has more than 20 years experience in general practice and occupational health. She has worked in a wide variety of industries including health, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and defence. Her interests include women’s health, vaccinations, travel medicine, ergonomics and rehabilitation of work injuries.

Jane is currently the Brigade Medical Officer for the Metropolitan Fire Brigade.

DR GEORGE WILSON (MBBS, MRCP, GRAD DIP OCC HEALTH, FACNEM, FACoHM, MANZSOM)

George graduated from Monash in 1973. After several years as a hospital doctor he went to rural general practice, then a period of psychiatry training before changing his professional direction to Occupational Medicine in 1985. He has post graduate qualifications in nutritional medicine, herbal medicine, and occupational medicine. He provides an Integrative medical practice and occupational medical service at Morwell and Sale, and is an accredited CASA doctor to undertake drug testing.  George is an Independent Medical Examiner for WorkCover throughout regional Victoria and a Medical Advisor to WorkCover in Melbourne. George has a special interest and expertise in treating women’s hormonal disorders, particularly menopausal symptoms and cycle disturbances.

THE TEAM

PHM is supported by a team of medical practitioners working within the general practice division of PHM know as St Kilda Road Medical Centre.  The practices and practitioners work closely as a team to provide professional services including:
